GVHospice

GV Hospice provides a free, in-home, specialist palliative care service to support people with life limiting illness and their families.

Who are we?

We work with those with a life limiting illness and their support team to enhance their quality of life. We allow you to participate in all decisions about your care. We work with you and your medical team (GP, specialists and other health professionals) to provide symptom support for any issues that arise, such as nausea or pain, to allow you to live as actively as possible.

We have an experienced team who provide support, answer questions, advocate for you and your carers through a holistic approach in your place of choice (Home, Hospital and Residential Aged Care facility).

Our service is free. Nurses are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have specialised equipment to loan as needed.

Trained Client Care Volunteers can be matched to provide care and support.

Referrals can be made to us by treating doctors, local hospitals, treating specialists, allied health professionals, by self or family members and friends.

Our History

Goulburn Valley Hospice Care Service Inc was established in 1989 by members of the community who recognised a lack of service allowing people to remain at home as long as possible. There was also very limited grief and bereavement support.

A Committee of Management was formed, one nurse employed, supported by a volunteer clinical advisory committee. Volunteers were recruited. A small amount of funding obtained from the State Government helped to launch the service but it was support from the community and fundraising efforts that allowed the service to grow.

The average active case load was 33 patients during the first few years of the service. In 2024 the active caseload being supported by the service is approximately 130, with an average of 200 family members and carers receiving counselling and
bereavement support.
